BMW 2 Series Active Tourer : Progressive Design

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer stands out for its spatial functionality, signature BMW driving pleasure, and forward-thinking approach. Through BMW’s unmistakable design language, the second version of the sporty all-rounder for the premium compact market exudes visual dynamism and commanding presence.

Its completely renovated cabin features a BMW Curved Display in the style of the BMW iX, as well as a multitude of usage options and modern geometry. Furthermore, when it comes to powertrain, driver assistance, control/operation, and connectivity advancements, the new 2 Series Active Tourer is unrivalled.
Exterior

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer’s external design combines lifestyle features and visual sophistication into a modern crossover character profile. The minimal, clean surface treatment emanates sporting prowess and a confident presence. The iconic BMW kidney grille, with its expanded dimensions, and the sleek shapes of the headlamps convey these features most obviously at the front end of the automobile.

Full-LED headlights are standard on the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. On the options list are adaptive LED headlights with cornering light, non-dazzling matrix high beam, urban lights, a motorway beam pattern, and poor weather light.

A extended side window graphic, flush-fitting door handles, and low C-pillars all contribute to the new car’s dynamic profile, as do much more heavily slanted A-pillars compared to the prior model. The newly designed door shoulders around the A-pillars improve overall visibility significantly. The rear of the 2018 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer cuts a particularly powerful figure, thanks to its broad shoulders and compact LED light units. On all model variations, the exhaust tailpipes are hidden below the back apron.

16-inch or 17-inch light-alloy wheels are standard, depending on the model version. Light-alloy wheels with a diameter of up to 19 inches are offered as an option. As an alternative to the standard equipment, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer can be selected in Luxury Line trim or with a M Sport package. For the outside, there are two non-metallic and nine metallic paint finishes to choose from.
Interior

The basic makeover introduced by the second-generation automobile emphasises the size and versatility of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer’s cabin. The cabin geometry and a slew of other elements are inspired by the BMW iX technology flagship’s interior concept. The thin instrument panel, the BMW Curved Display, the “floating” armrest with integrated control panel, and an overall reduction in the quantity of physical control elements all contribute to a progressive luxury atmosphere.

The storage compartment beneath the armrest is used as a storage compartment, while the area in front of it has large cup holders and a newly designed smartphone slot. The phone is visible to the driver and front passenger and can be charged wirelessly if desired.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer provides considerably improved long-distance comfort for its five seats than its predecessor. Optional Sensatec perforated or Vernasca leather is available for the newly created multi-adjustable seats. Sport seats with substantial bolsters and shoulder regions, electric seat adjustment (with memory function), lumbar support, and a massage function are all available as extras. In addition, acoustic comfort and occupant safety have been improved. The integrated passive safety concept now includes a redesigned interaction airbag for the driver and front passenger.

The car’s uncomplicated functionality in everyday use and on longer trips away is aided by a variety of storage areas and multi-adjustable rear seats. The boot capacity rises by up to 90 litres when the rear backrests are in the cargo position.

The back seats can also be moved forward up to 13 cm. Customers will have a cargo compartment that may be used for a variety of purposes thanks to this and the 40: 20: 40 split/folding rear seat backrests. The BMW 218i Active Tourer and BMW 218d Active Tourer have a boot capacity of 470–1,455 litres, while the BMW 220i Active Tourer and BMW 223i Active Tourer have a boot capacity of 415–1,405 litres.
The New BMW iDrive
The new version of BMW’s control/operation system iDrive, which is available for the first time in a compact-segment car, is based on BMW Operating System 8. It comes standard with the BMW Curved Display, which features cutting-edge visuals and a menu layout, as well as the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which has an enhanced skill set. A 10.25-inch information display plus a control display with a screen diagonal of 10.7 inches make up the BMW Curved Display completely digital screen grouping. The new BMW iDrive system is based on intuitive touch and voice controls.

Individually specified vehicle settings are combined with applicable interior experience worlds in the new My Modes. With the Augmented View function on the control display, the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps can be set as an option. The internal camera allows passengers to capture photos and send them to their smartphones while on board. Customers who purchase a new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer can also get a Personal eSIM, which is designed to function with the new 5G mobile technology, as well as the BMW ID, which allows them to personalise their user experience and increase smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer appeals to active, lifestyle-oriented target groups thanks to its simple operation, progressive character profile, and extensive standard equipment – which comfortably outperforms the predecessor model and distinguishes it from its competitors. Four front-wheel-drive model variations with outputs ranging from 100 kW/136 hp to 160 kW/218 hp will be offered when it debuts in February 2022. The new model will be built in BMW Group’s Leipzig factory, and its vehicle architecture will support both combustion engines and electric drive systems. Two plug-in hybrid models will be added to the selection a few months after the launch.
