BMW i4 : Expression of Dynamism
With the introduction of the BMW i4, electric mobility is now at the heart of the BMW brand. The BMW i4 is a four-door gran coupé that combines the distinctive spaciousness and utility of this vehicle design with BMW’s legendary sports abilities and a range that also impresses on long travels. The high level of development of its driving system and chassis technology, its attractive design, stringent standards of quality of materials and workmanship, and the large number of individualization options offered indicate a premium character beyond that of market rivals. Furthermore, the new BMW iDrive control/operation system, as well as cutting-edge advances in autonomous driving and parking technologies, add to the emotional depth of the driving experience.

The BMW i4 is the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, with a focus on driving dynamics from the start. From the start, there will be two model versions available, including the first BMW M vehicle with a locally emission-free driving system.
Flexible vehicle architecture, higher level of overall coherence.

The creation of the BMW i4 was based on a flexible vehicle design devised – for the first time – for an all-electric drive system, in line with the BMW Group’s ongoing second phase of transformation towards electric mobility.

Furthermore, the vehicle concept proposes a BMW-like solution to the age-old conflict between sportiness and long-distance capability: Without the need for excessively large and heavy batteries, efficient drive system technology and intelligent lightweight design provide smile-inducing dynamics and a long range.

The BMW i4’s integrated application of all powertrain and chassis components also contributes to a level of design coherence that its competitors lack. The BMW i4’s dynamic driving abilities extend far beyond the rapid straight-line acceleration typical of a powerful electric car, thanks to the BMW Group’s technological prowess and vast experience in the development of exceptionally sporty luxury cars. As a result, even under difficult driving circumstances, effortless progress is possible, as well as precise controllable handling.
Design

The BMW i4 combines the brand’s traditional athletic flair with the comfort of a four-door model and a dash of modern practicality. The body design’s stretched proportions and straightforward use of forms transmit a statement of exclusivity and the dynamic flair for which BMW is known. Accents in BMW I Blue for the partly blanked-off kidney grille, the car’s battery technology in the floor region, and the stylish diffuser components — which improve the car’s aerodynamics — emphasize the car’s environmental credentials.

Short overhangs, slender pillars, frameless doors, and a roofline that flows neatly into the back emphasize a profile that is very much in keeping with the BMW coupé Mould. The stunning BMW kidney grille with its discretely integrated camera, ultrasonic, and radar sensors, as well as slim headlamps offered as an option with BMW Laserlight, are the front end’s defining elements.

The BMW i4 eDrive40 in M Sport trim and the BMW i4 M50 have their own particular design elements to emphasize their performance-oriented nature. An M Carbon exterior kit is available as an option, and Genuine BMW Accessory includes model-specific M Performance Parts.

The interior has a driver-focused cockpit and a premium luxury ambience, as well as a large, versatile space. Sport seats and a sports steering wheel are standard, as are acoustic glazing, pre-heating, and pre-conditioning. The transmission selector lever, BMW Controller, and function keys are all located on a modern-looking control panel in the center console. The big tailgate comes standard with an automatic opening and shutting mechanism. The load compartment holds between 470 and 1,290 liters. The maximum trailer weight is 1,600 kilos, and an electrically extensible and retractable trailer tow hitch is offered as an option.

Individualization choices for the BMW i4 are class-leading, emphasizing the vehicle’s premium status. Seat heating and ventilation, Vernasca leather and BMW Individual leather trim variants, Sensatec and leather instrument panel coverings, the M Sport package Pro, a glass slide/tilt sunroof, ambient lighting, and the Harman Kardm Surround Sound System all contribute to a more enjoyable and comfortable driving experience.

For the first time in the BMW i4, the next generation of the iDrive display and control/operation system extends the interaction between driver and vehicle into genuine discourse. It is based on the new BMW Operating System 8 and has been created with a strong focus on the touchscreen functionality of the BMW Curved Display and spoken communication with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which has been significantly enhanced.

To ensure safe and enjoyable driving and parking, over 40 aid functions are included as standard or as extras. Active Cruise Control with automated Speed Limit Assist, route monitoring, traffic signal detection (available in Germany), and the Steering and Lane Control Assistant are just a few of the highlights.

Front-collision warning, speed limit information, lane departure warning, park distance control, and a reversing assist camera are all standard features. Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant and Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View and Remote 3D View are available as options.

The BMW i4 is built on an assembly line shared with vehicles with combustion engines and plug-in hybrid drive systems at BMW Group Plant Munich as part of a flexible production setup. Both vehicle production and battery cell production use 100 percent renewable energy.

The usage of rare earth metals in the drive system rotors can be eliminated thanks to the design approach for electric motors. The BMW i4 uses a lot of secondary raw materials and recycled materials, which helps to cut down on the number of resources needed in production.
