Budget EV’s from MG India

MG Motors, India

Last year, MG entered the electric vehicle market in India with the launch of the ZS EV. The ZS EV is now priced between Rs 21.00 to Rs 24.18 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). A more ambitious ambition for MG Motor India’s EVs is that its next EV will be priced “around Rs 20 lakh.” According to our sources, the company is aiming for a price range of under Rs 10 lakh.

MG’s cheap EVs will be built on the Baojun E200.

It will be built on the same platform as SAIC’s Baojun E200, which is a huge hit in China. At last year’s Auto Expo in Delhi, the automaker had displayed the model, rebadged as an MG model.

An Indian three- or four-seater model for under Rs 10 lakh was announced by MG at the Auto Expo. In other words, the company’s strategy appears to be working.

Following up from the E200’s success in China, MG India wants to use the same low-cost EV skateboard for the Indian market to produce numerous budget-end EVs, including a compact SUV and small hatchback.

All-electric car will be priced below the company’s 4.3m-long ZS EV, which has a range of 419km thanks to its 44.5kWh battery. When it comes to affordable EVs, they’ll have smaller batteries and a shorter range, but they’ll be good in cities.

To be successful in India, electric vehicles must, according to company insiders, have “excellent performance, design and ground clearance” In the future, expect MG to take this into account when creating new goods and services.

As the SAIC has yet to approve MG India’s EV program, we should expect the new, cheaper models to come only after 2024 at the earliest.

In FY2021, the total electric passenger vehicle market sold 5,904 units. As customer acceptability, charging infrastructure, and battery technology improve in the coming years, MG will be seeking to make a bigger push in the EV industry.
