In automotive history, few names command as much respect as Hispano Suiza. In automotive history, few names command as much respect as Hispano Suiza. The Hispano Montserrat Concept car is a homage to the iconic 1911 Hispano Suiza T45 Alfonso XIII, a car that set new standards in automotive design and performance.

Disclaimer: This is a personal project from Pietro Artigiani in collaboration with Hispano Suiza

The T45 Alfonso XIII, named after the Spanish king who was a passionate supporter of the brand, was renowned for its speed, luxury, and advanced engineering. It was one of the first sports cars ever made, combining performance with elegance in a way that few vehicles had before. The Montserrat concept car takes these principles and reinterprets them for the 21st century, creating a vehicle that is both a tribute to the past and a vision of the future. The Montserrat concept car captures the spirit of its scenic namesake as it's named after the beautiful mountainous region near Barcelona. Imagine this car smoothly navigating the winding roads of Montserrat, blending power and peace, much like the quiet monastery of the Benedictine monks nestled in the mountains. This mix of harmony and strength is at the heart of the Montserrat concept's design, balancing modern looks with classic charm.

Inspired by the iconic 1911 Hispano Suiza T45 Alfonso XIII, the designer crafted a two-seater sports car that honours the past while creating a fresh, modern identity. The long bonnet and exposed wheels evoke nostalgia, reminding us of the elegance of early 20th-century car design, while also hinting at the car’s strong performance. This combination of old and new brings together the charm of the past with the energy of the present. Its sleek, aerodynamic shape reduces drag and boosts performance, while lightweight, strong materials ensure agility and responsiveness. The exposed wheels, a nod to the T45, are paired with modern suspension systems for a smooth ride on both winding mountain roads and city streets.

Inside, the Montserrat continues to mix old and new. The luxurious interior materials and careful craftsmanship echo the richness of the original T45, but it also includes the latest technology and modern conveniences. The minimalist dashboard with intuitive controls and digital displays contrasts beautifully with the rich leather seats and classic design details, creating a space that is both elegant and user-friendly. The Montserrat concept car is a result of the creative collaboration between IED University and Hispano Suiza. This project celebrates the brand’s rich history while looking confidently to the future.
