Hyundai Kona Electric : Designed Practically
When we launched the KONA Electric in 2018 as the world’s first fully-electric subcompact SUV, it represented a major step forward for affordable e-mobility. With the new KONA Electric, we’re showing that Hyundai is fully committed to zero-emissions driving, by providing our customers with enhanced driving assistance and safety features, making it an even more desirable package.Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing & Product, Hyundai Motor Europe.
The KONA Electric is an automobile that makes no concessions. It embodies the two hottest automotive trends of the moment: electrification and SUV styling. It has the same expressive design as the conventional KONA, as well as the same ‘go-anywhere’ attitude. The fully-electric variant fits the unique lifestyles of current customers who value tremendous driving pleasure as well as the low environmental impact of an electric vehicle. The platform’s unique design allows the battery packs to be integrated in a space-saving manner without sacrificing roominess.
A series of striking exterior design improvements have been made to the new KONA Electric. The KONA displays its great electric technology while being even more noticeable on the road by blending a clean and sleek design with the protective and bold B-SUV body type.
The front has a pure and sleek design with the new-look closed grille. The new LED Daytime Running Lights, which emphasise the car’s wide stance, add to the car’s current appearance. An asymmetric charging outlet complements the front, a characteristic unique to the KONA Electric that makes a bold statement about driving electric.
New, sharper headlamps wrap around the car’s side. Multi Focus Reflector (MFR) technology has been added to the high-tech headlamp inner bezel. The painted wheel arch claddings are attached to the headlamps, giving the new KONA Electric a distinct and stylish appearance. Vertical air inlets in front of the wheel arch claddings improve aerodynamics, lowering turbulence in the front wheelhouse area significantly. Meanwhile, horizontal satin accent bars give the lower bumper a strong stance, while a functional air inlet in the lower bumper is visually enhanced.
The accent bars on the rear bumper have been retained to provide value to the car’s overall appearance, while new horizontally-stretched back lamps match the front’s pure aspect. The new version of the KONA Electric is 25 millimetres longer than the previous model. This gives it a dynamic appearance as well as a strong visual presence.
Customers can further personalise their interiors with one of two colour packages. Fabric, cloth-leather, and leather materials are available for the Basic Black one-tone package. Alternatively, the Grey two-tone interior package is available with cloth-leather mélange or leather materials. Meanwhile, new ambient lighting illuminates the passenger and driver side footwells, highlighting the vehicle’s lifestyle appeal.
A 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 10.25-inch AVN screen are available on the new KONA Electric. The AVN unit includes multimedia and convenience features such as Bluelink®, Hyundai LIVE Services, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, making advanced connectivity even more accessible to Hyundai drivers. Customers who opt for the eight-inch Display Audio system can use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to connect their smartphones wirelessly.
A combiner-style head-up display is included with KONA Electric (HUD). The relevant driving information is projected directly into the driver’s line of sight using this technology. This allows for faster information processing while maintaining focus on the road ahead. The head-up display ensures optimal visibility in various light conditions, with an image size of eight inches projected at a distance of two metres and a luminance of more than 10,000 candela per square metre. Customers nowadays prefer to listen to their favourite music in their cars, which is why KONA Electric provides an eight-speaker high-end sound system from audio producer Krell.
Even more convenience for rear passengers is provided by new second row heated seats and a new backseat USB chart. Onboard comfort features including motorised front seats, three-step ventilation, and an available heated steering wheel make driving even more enjoyable in a range of situations.
