FUTURE VISION OF FARMING.
Agricultural development is one of the most powerful tools to end extreme poverty, boost shared prosperity and feed a projected 9.7 billion people by 2050. Growth in the agriculture sector is two to four times more effective in raising incomes among the poorest compared to other sectors.
Agricultural technology, application of techniques to control the growth and harvesting of animal and vegetable products. Technology in agriculture can be used in different aspects of agriculture such as the application of herbicide, pesticide, fertilizer, and improved seed. Over the years, technology has proved to be extremely useful in the agricultural sector.
In the future, it looks like easier tasks will be automated, although there will still be tasks that need the invaluable experience of a human operator. As in the past, it used to be that a single tractor could take of everything from soil cultivation to crop harvesting. In the future with digitalization and advanced technologies how we can do all the multipurpose machine tasks with seemingly contradictory things.
During the initial ideation phase, the surveillance vehicle was a land vehicle. Later according to the concept I had to design an aerial vehicle so that it does not interrupt the flow of land cultivation activities or harm the crops. Here are a few of the initial ideations made for the design of the Alpha.
The seat has 3 positions to pilot the Alpha. It is suspended with 2 support beams on each side to change the positions as required. The exoskeletal nature of the seat helps to switch between the positions easily and reduces the overall weight of the vehicle.
The levitation of Alpha is achieved as the envelope forms a hot air chamber. Regulating Thermal and electromagnetic radiation can be used to control the hot air density inside the envelope. It is made of a solar-fabric to help attract additional heat.
The structural frame is connected to the Tail unit and thruster. The pitch, roll and yaw are controlled by the tail and two supporting either side. With the help of a thruster at the center of the frame and tail, the forward motion is generated.
The body parts are mounted onto each sub brane present on both sides of the mainframe. The body encloses the exposed frame structure and adds aerodynamic efficiency.
Alpha is an ariel surveillance vehicle that collects data for efficient farming techniques. The vehicle is manually controlled to hover around the height of 50 feet from the ground. Alpha is designed to autonomously dock and undock on Beta. While docked on Beta, the pilot can take manual control of it if necessary.
Initial sketches and 3D models of the Beta Tractor. The Beta was designed keeping in mind that it is a fully-autonomous vehicle, but also incorporated with the ability to manually override it using ALPHA for some special tasks that require human intervention.
The front wheel is mounted with an electric motor and an independent suspension system. The tyre frame extends at several intervals to provide a larger footprint resulting in larger torque output
The Tracks are made of high-utility rubber track with Rubber-UHMW wheels supported by a steel frame structure. Track wheels help in a wider footprint to distribute the torque onto the ground to avoid the land destruction
The transmission tunnel Itself acts like a frame structure supporting the whole chassis. The battery pack is placed at the center of the frame and surrounded by autonomous electricals so that the CG is distributed throughout the frame.
The rear transmission is the primary motor mated to a differential to supply power supply to the rear wheels and to the main power take-off (PTO) to run the attachments
The front end of the Beta has a secondary power take-off (PTO) shaft to power the front end attachments. As the wheels are independent systems there is no obstruction for the PTO shaft to function efficiently
The compact body is divided into 3 parts. The position of the mechanics: electronics and battery allows the repair and maintenance of each component independently without removing the complete body
Beta is a full autonomus tractor which can perform all farming task on large farms by reciving signals from a satellite or Alpha.
The Marriage (Alpha+ Beta)
During the docking of the Alfa unit on Beta the EM pulse generators play a key role. The EM connector rings hover close to the magnetic field of the pulse generators. As they hover in close vicinity to each other, the rings get attracted and fit onto the generators. Now, Alpha gets docked onto Beta supported by the frame on top.
Suraj V Kamate is a year 5 Transportation Design student at Rubika, Valenciennes- France. In addition to Diploma in Automotive Engineering and currently pursuing a Manager en ingénierie du design, Transportation Design Manager, he has completed a 5 month Transportation Design Internship at Massey Ferguson – Beauvais, France, and a 5 month Motorcycle Design Internship at Peugeot Motocycles – Mandeure, France where he learned and applied both analog and software skills to plan, manage and work directly on all stages of exterior and Interior development of a vehicle under the guidance of the Industry professionals.
