Nissan Z : Past Meets Future

“Z is the pure expression of thrill. It is Nissan’s passion wrapped up on four wheels, The new Nissan Z retains its authenticity as a pure sports car to keep you connected to the road while bringing in the latest modern technologies to make sure the car can help keep you connected to your life.”
Ashwani Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.

2023 Nissan Z has a modern, elegant external design that pays homage to the Z’s illustrious past. Long hood, short deck, and a fresh design make it “love at first sight” for Z fans. Its façade and interior were designed with a “tradition with current technology” motif.

“Inspired by the voices of thousands of Z owners and Z lovers, and ignited by internal conversations around the six generations of Z that have come before, we found ourselves gravitating towards the sketches that touched the high points of certain decades while remaining true to our vision of the future,” said Alfonso Albaisa, global head of design at Nissan. “Ultimately, we created a Z that travels between the decades while being completely modern.”

With its tall hood, lowered rear stance, and a shape that pays homage to the original Z, the new Z has a typical rear-wheel-drive sports car design. As a result, designers employed LED lighting to give the design dimension without adding extraneous features. 240ZG of the 1970s inspired the LED headlights’ two half-circles, which matched easily with the new Z’s identity.

The 2023 Z’s resemblance to the original Z is most apparent when viewed from the side. To produce the characteristic first-generation Z design, a sloping roofline flows from the nose to the squared-off back. The rear edge was somewhat lower than the front fender height, giving the Z its unusual posture.

There is a distinct transition from the rear quarter glass to the tail’s low location. Its door handles are flush-mounted, and the rear hatch design is ultra-thin, but more robust than its predecessor. There are new 3D LED taillights and new 3D signature LED taillights in the rear combination lamps evocative of the Z32 (1990-1996 300ZX).

There’s a rear spoiler on the Z Performance grade that provides positive pressure where the rear hatch and spoiler meet, which reduces rear lift in the car. As a result of Nissan GT-R development, the front spoiler incorporates negative pressure zones.

When it comes to the 2023 Z’s cabin, it was designed to suit both the driver and passenger like a glove. For example, the instrument panel has three analogue pod gauges and an 8.0-inch touchscreen audio display in the middle. The climate controls are located near the shifter.

When it came to designing the Z’s inside, the interior design team turned to motorsports icons, such as Nissan Super GT500 driver Tsugio Matsuda, for help. For example, the 12.3-inch configurable digital metre display displays all critical information in a way that allows the driver to absorb it at a glance, such as the redline shift point at twelve o’clock.

All-new 12.3-inch TFT meter display with three display settings. It has a sporty vibe to it, with the navigation, music, and vehicle information all centered in the center of the screen. To make room for the navigation map and other information, “Enhanced” mode moves the tachometer and speedometer out of view. In “Sport” mode, the tachometer is placed in the center, with the shift-up light at the top, so the driver can see the shifts. Boost gauges and G meters can also be displayed in Sport mode.

On the new Z’s instrument panel, three analogue pod gauges (boost, turbo speed, and volt) are placed in the driver’s line of sight. In addition, both the manual and automated shift levers have been completely redesigned, with each one being custom-engineered for optimal comfort.

As a result of the GT-development, R’s the seats have been designed to improve both hold and fit. The increased usage of suede on the seatback reduces body movement when the vehicle is actively cornering, resulting in more comfortable driving.

Among the standard convenience features are Nissan Intelligent KeyTM with Push Button Start, Intelligent Cruise Control, Automatic Temperature Control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, RearView Monitor and front and rear sonar sensors. Six speakers and an 8.0-inch audio touchscreen with Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, SiriusXM® Radio, and Siri® Eyes Free are included in the 8.0-inch audio touchscreen.
Black, Red, and Blue interior colour environments are available. There are yellow highlights in the cabin of the Z Proto Spec version, including stitching on the instrument panel. A layered seat material creates depth and gradation in the seating area.
