The Lamborghini Cretan Was born as a group project at SPD Milano in collaboration with Lamborghini. The project was to create a new architecture for the year 2040.

Introduction

For the development of the vehicle itself, one of the brand’s classics was taken as the main inspiration: The Marzal from 1967. The Lamborghini Cretan project was developed using the side glass of the original car, also getting the essence of another two classics, The Espada and the Countach. Therefore this is not a modern interpretation of the Marzal but rather a new kind of architecture with Lamborghini’s most beautiful and recognizable DNA.

The idea Behind

The idea behind this was to create a retro-futuristic design in a very elegant electric car with big dimensions and a strong presence. One of the main challenges was to keep and respect Gandini’s line. The concept of soft aggression was chosen, so there could be a balance between an aggressive menacing design and elegance.

The first step was to work on the side view, specifically the side glass transforming it into a tridimensional piece of design that could give the car an athletic and strong presence from all angles. Following the original Marzal design, this glass is divided in two and points out the spaces between the front and rear seats.

The Design

The most noticeable line of the car starts in the front bumper, crossing along with the car through the tridimensional glass until the rear that is blended into the surfaces shaping a very strong feature of the vehicle while creating a floating spoiler which is a continuation of the pillars making the design flow all along with the vehicle.

It was decided to add diagonal lines on both ends since they give a muscular look to the car, they are what gives a Lamborghini that inimitable menacing expression and it was decided to add a tridimensional texture on the rear glass representing another visual link to the classic Marzal, the color also plays a large role on how the vehicle would be perceived. The rear end is supposed to pay tribute to the Espada and Countach, embodying that old classic Feeling of the brand.

The Interior

The interior was made thinking about the new generation capsules and rockets, emphasizing the very futuristic and buttonless approach along with colors and materials, the aim was to make the passengers feel like they were in a spaceship, complementing the exterior design with the purpose to cause the viewers what the original Marzal made the people feel back in 1967 in Geneva’s international motor show, a spaceship on wheels.

One of the key sketches shows clearly what direction the project was going in, keeping it simple, elegant and menacing. Special attention was paid to various fighter aircraft in general. The retro-futuristic design of the Cretan is a balance between the history of Lamborghini and what the future could look like in the near future, Gandini’s classic pieces of art represent the golden era of the brand because of what makes people feel, of its beauty and architecture.
