This Ferrari Cortina TRS Concept By Andrea Stoppa Showcases Brand's Ability To Evolve While Staying True To Its Heritage

Mar 04, 2024

The main objective of this project was to envision a new Ferrari H-SUV coupe for the new decade, starting by taking inspiration from one of the most iconic models of the 1980s, the Ferrari Testarossa, with its line, the work of Pininfarina, characterized by the presence of a dense series of horizontal bars that were repeated on all four sides of the body.

The decision to maintain a minimalist design approach for the line was carefully considered. By avoiding overly heavy volumes, the designer aimed to create a recognizable and distinctive aesthetic while staying true to the simplicity inherent in Ferrari's design ethos. This decision was influenced by his deep admiration for the Maranello brand and the iconic Ferrari Testarossa, which made a lasting impact on automotive design and culture in the late 1980s.

The Testarossa, with its striking side strakes and bold proportions, served as a touchstone for the design process. The designer sought to capture the essence of its design language while infusing his vision for the future. This involved a delicate balance of homage and innovation, respecting the heritage of Ferrari while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design.

Ferrari Testarossa

Testarossa's clean lines, sleek profile, and emphasis on aerodynamics were the inspiration for crafting the line. These elements led the approach to form and function, resulting in a design that is both visually compelling and performance-driven. The result is a line that pays tribute to Ferrari's storied past while paving the way for its exciting future.

Design Elements

The design of the Ferrari Cortina TRS is a beautiful blend of simplicity and elegance, paying homage to the iconic Testarossa while embracing a futuristic aesthetic. Its front end is characterized by graceful lines that lead the eye to the horizontal grille, which serves as a striking focal point. The integration of the light clusters into the grille adds a modern twist, breaking the visual continuity of the front and giving it a distinctive look.

Moving to the side profile, the Cortina TRS embraces the sensual and muscular lines that have become synonymous with Ferrari's design language. The placement of the air intake near the front wheel not only serves an aerodynamic purpose but also features horizontal carbon bars that add a layer of visual intrigue, breaking up the car's monolithic design.

At the rear, the Cortina TRS features a grille that houses the headlight clusters. Unlike the circular lights typically found on Ferraris, the Cortina TRS opts for a more modern, horizontal design that follows the lines of the grille. The lower part of the rear sports a carbon diffuser, which is a continuation of the car's aerodynamic elements and exhausts.

The overall design of the Ferrari Cortina TRS is a testament to Ferrari's commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive design. It successfully blends the brand's rich heritage with modern aesthetics, resulting in a car that is both visually stunning and aerodynamically efficient.

Conclusion

Creating the Ferrari Cortina TRS was an exciting challenge spurred by a deep passion and a desire to push boundaries. Every detail was carefully considered to offer a modern take on iconic Ferrari elements, particularly those from the Testarossa. This vehicle was designed to be a later model and to occupy a different segment than the Ferrari Purosangue.

The Ferrari Cortina TRS is a bold and monolithic object, distinguished by its sensual and pure lines that make it instantly recognizable on the road.
