Citroen Above & Under Concept represents a departure from conventional automotive design

Dec 05, 2023

Dive into a revolutionary exploration of interior space and user experience as we break free from the conventional confines of automotive design. Citroen Above & Under Concept, by Sangheon Chung anchored in Citroen's distinctive and daring designs, takes a bold step to redefine the dynamic driving experience both on the road and water.

Introduction

The concept ingeniously merges two electric vehicles, a car, and a sea breacher, into a seamless modular entity that maximizes the thrill of an athletic and dynamic arcade experience. In a groundbreaking collaboration, the designer partnered with AI innovator Midjourney to infuse limitless inspirational creativity into the project where deconstructivist architecture served as a muse, and the fusion of AI-generated characteristics initiated the design journey.

Unlike traditional vehicles, the design eliminates the conventional cabin room, with sea breachers as cabins and vice versa. A horizontal battery running through the platform ensures the sea breachers are perfectly positioned yet detachable, with an open rear exit for easy access. With two separate sea breachers on board, users can customize their driving experience. Whether driving on the road or sailing on the water, passengers on the sea breacher can take the wheel, offering a dynamic and personalized adventure.

The Design

The exterior design of this Citroen Concept, inspired by deconstructivism, embraces individuality of shapes and forms, culminating in what we like to call the "cluster of individuality." Just as Deconstructivist paintings feature geometric shapes forming intentional images, the exterior of the vehicle comprises separated parts assembled in their intentional place, achieving a harmonious whole.

This theme continues in the interior, where Deconstructivist chairs inspired the design of the two-layered seats—a skeleton layer for support and a skin layer for comfort.

Citroen Above & Under Concept achieves the perfect fusion of art and arcade, presenting an extremely lightweight dynamic vehicle with a deconstructivism-inspired exterior and interior. The exterior showcases the raw material texture of metal sheets, inspired by Deconstructivist architecture, while carbon parts add a high-performance touch, creating an overall harmony of aesthetics and functionality. Step into the future with Citroen Above & Under Concept, where innovation and creativity redefine the driving and sailing experience.
