This New Genesis Vision Veil Concept By Yoonho Choi Is A Project Based On His Characters And Identity

Feb 14, 2024

Genesis Vision Veil is a dream car project that breaks boundaries and redefines the relationship between identity and design. Conducted in the Exterior 4 class at ArtCenter College of Design, this project aims to create a personalized vehicle that reflects the student's character and identity.

The designer of the Genesis Vision Veil project is a big fan of the original Genesis Coupe. He wanted to imagine a fresh future for the brand, inspired by futuristic concept cars. This project was more than just making a new car; it was a tribute to Genesis' history and spirit while pushing design and innovation boundaries. The designer began by studying Genesis' history and design philosophy, focusing on elegance, sophistication, and technology. The result is the Genesis Vision Veil, a concept car honouring the Genesis Coupe's legacy while embracing the brand's future vision. It is sleek, sophisticated, and technologically advanced, embodying the spirit of Genesis.

The Concept of the Veil

The silver veil is a big part of the Genesis Vision Veil. It makes the car look mysterious and fancy. It hides the car a little, but also lets you see the car's real shape and design. The idea of the veil is not just about the car. In today's world, social media and technology can make people feel like they need to act a certain way. The veil is like a symbol of freedom from this pressure. By covering up who you are, the veil shows your true self in a car's design language.

The Genesis Vision Veil project sets out to explore three distinct design directions, each with its own set of characteristics and sources of inspiration.

Direction A: This direction places a strong emphasis on contrasting materials and a unique extruded surface design. A notable feature is the elongated section along the vehicle's side, which smoothly transitions into the roof, creating a seamless connection with the rear. The glossy obsidian body and satin silver outer cover are visually striking, while the door opening design, resembling a wedding ring box, adds a touch of romance and strengthens the emotional bond with the vehicle.

Direction B: Inspired by traditional South Korean architecture, this direction incorporates extended LED bars and a prominent crest graphic that nods to the elegant lines of a Hanok. The eaves under the roof are transformed into the rear diffuser, contributing not only to the visual appeal but also to the vehicle's aerodynamic efficiency.

Direction C: This final direction stays true to the core values of the original concept. The vehicle's body features sensual surfacing that mimics the gentle flow of a stretched veil, with the iconic 2-line Daytime Running Lights (DRL) standing vertically and seamlessly extending to the roof. The autonomous mode light graphic, inspired by the South Korean national flag, adds a layer of cultural significance to the design.

Each of these design directions offers a unique perspective on the Genesis Vision Veil, combining aesthetics, functionality, and cultural elements to create a truly distinct and memorable vehicle.

Unique Design Elements

The beltline of the Genesis Vision Veil is a defining feature that sets it apart from other vehicles. This section of the car has a distinct shape, resembling a vacuum form, which contributes to its sleek and futuristic appearance. This design choice is not just about aesthetics; it also serves a functional purpose. The unique shape of the beltline helps reduce wind resistance, improving the car's aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Additionally, it enhances the car's overall visual appeal, giving it a modern and sophisticated look.

Moving to the front of the car, the large air intake is another standout feature. While it certainly adds to the car's aggressive and sporty appearance, its primary function is to aid in creating downforce. This downforce helps keep the car stable at high speeds, improving handling and overall performance. Furthermore, the air intake also serves to cool the car's battery, which is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and efficiency. Lastly, the parabolic gesture on the side of the car is a small but impactful detail. This design element adds a sense of dynamism and movement to the vehicle, making it appear more agile and ready to hit the road. It also contributes to the car's overall visual balance and proportion, enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.

Conclusion

The Genesis Vision Veil project is a remarkable demonstration of the innovative spirit and creative vision of its designer. By rethinking the connection between identity and design, this project establishes a new benchmark for automotive design. The veil, symbolizing mystery and freedom, encourages individuals to embrace their distinctiveness and express their genuine selves. The project's approach to design, incorporating elements like the veil, demonstrates a shift towards more personalized and individualized vehicles. This not only enhances the driving experience but also reflects a broader cultural shift towards valuing uniqueness and self-expression.

Overall, the Genesis Vision Veil project represents an exciting and forward-thinking direction for automotive design, one that emphasizes the individual and celebrates the diversity of human expression.
