This BMW Coupe Concept is a perfect fusion of retro and modern design

Aug 08, 2024

This BMW Coupe Concept is a remarkable example of how automotive design can honour the past while embracing the future. By paying homage to the legendary BMW 2002 Turbo, this BMW Coupe successfully merges vintage charm with cutting-edge innovation, creating a vehicle that resonates with nostalgia and forward-thinking design.

The design of the BMW Coupe Concept draws inspiration from the iconic headlamp design of the legendary BMW 2002 race car. One of the most distinctive features of 2002 was the "X"-shaped tape over its headlamp, a functional detail that has now been creatively reimagined in this Coupe Concept. In this modern BMW concept, the "X" shape has been transformed into the primary graphic for the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL), making it a standout feature. This bold design choice gives the Vision Root Coupe a unique look instantly recognizable on the road. It’s not just about making a visual connection to the past; it’s also a nod to the precision and functionality that BMW has always prioritized in its designs.

The headlamp of this BMW Car is a great example of how this car mixes new ideas with classic design. While the headlamp is modern and cutting-edge, it still holds onto the spirit of the original 2002 model, showing how BMW can embrace new technologies while staying true to its history. It also gives a fresh look to BMW’s famous double kidney grille. Instead of the usual shape, this concept car has two sleek vertical lines that give the front of the car a clean and sophisticated appearance. This modern grille design not only updates the car's look but also respects BMW's heritage, showing how the brand continues to evolve while keeping the features that made it iconic.

Below the grille, there's a wide air flap that takes inspiration from the original 2002 model, helping improve the car's aerodynamics. This air flap is framed by a staple-shaped outer panel that smoothly connects to the sides of the car. This smooth design not only boosts the car's performance but also ties together its modern and classic design elements, creating a cohesive and stylish look.

The bodyside of the BMW Coupe Concept perfectly captures the essence of a modern sports coupe. With its long hood, balanced proportions, and compact cabin, it embodies the classic silhouette of a true sports car. The design is sleek and powerful, with every line and curve carefully sculpted by the designer. Furthermore, the fenders are pushed out to their limits, creating a bold coke-bottle shape that adds to the car's dynamic appearance. As the bodyside flows toward the rear of the car, the design seamlessly continues the staple shape seen at the front. This creates a sense of consistency and balance throughout the vehicle. At the back, the car features rectangular taillights and double vertical lower brake lights, which echo the design of the front's kidney grille. This thoughtful design approach ensures that the BMW looks harmonious and balanced from every angle.

This BMW Coupe Concept is more than just a concept car; it’s a bold statement in car design. Its clean and striking shape, combined with modern touches, creates a design that feels both timeless and forward-looking. By taking inspiration from the past while embracing the future, this BMW Coupe shows how tradition and innovation can come together. This car truly reflects BMW’s design philosophy, where every part has a purpose, and every detail is carefully crafted. This concept represents what the future of car design could be—deeply connected to its history but also boldly innovative.
