May 19, 2024

In the world of high-end cars, where innovation meets tradition, this Polestar concept emerges as a beacon of the future. This innovative interior concept for the next-generation sports wagon is the creation of a student from the Interior 4 class at ArtCenter College of Design. He aimed to blend the essence of the Polestar brand with elements inspired by the Northern guide star and Scandinavian aesthetics.

The North Star, or Polaris, is famous for its bright presence at the tip of the Little Dipper constellation, historically guiding travelers. By integrating the North Star’s symbolism into the car’s interior, the design not only reinforces Polestar’s brand identity but also connects deeply with its Scandinavian heritage. This choice guide both driver and the brand towards their destinations, while giving the vehicle a distinctive, culturally resonant character.

Polestar 0000 is a harmonious blend of Design and Functionality

The first direction i.e. direction A stands out with its innovative vacuum-formed cabin, designed to fit the driver like a glove. This cabin is crafted from a single sheet of reinforced plastic, molded to perfectly conform to the driver’s body. The result is a snug and comfortable experience, with an extended pocket on the side for storing essential items like electronic toll collection (ETC) devices. The design, inspired by the Polestar logo, captures the brand’s sleek and unique character.

On the right side of the cabin, a reclining system with a reversed seat position offers enhanced comfort. This setup transforms the ride into a relaxing experience, perfect for unwinding on long trips. Additionally, a large screen in the backlight area provides access to various streaming services like Netflix, turning the journey into a mobile theatre.

Practicality is also a key feature of Direction A. Beneath the driver’s seat, there is additional trunk space for storing larger items. With two independently adjustable seats, the design strikes a perfect balance between dynamic driving and first-class comfort, ensuring an exceptional driving experience.

Direction B: Disconnected Instrument Panel

Direction B introduces an exciting new approach to interior design, seamlessly blending practicality with visual aesthetics. At its heart are two independent instrument panels, each with its own unique character and functionality. The driver-side panel, known as the mainland IP, draws inspiration from the iconic Polestar logo. Its design creates a captivating visual effect, with a floating IP and dark flooring reminiscent of a star shining in the night sky. This adds a touch of magic to the interior, enhancing the overall ambiance of the car.

On the right side, the minor IP, referred to as the island, serves as an entertainment hub and driver assistant. It offers a range of functionalities aimed at enhancing the driving experience. The space between the major and minor IPs is cleverly utilised for storing items such as skis and umbrellas, enhancing the car's practicality and convenience.

The deliberate separation between the major and minor panels may seem unconventional at first, but it introduces an element of sophistication and novelty to the design. This innovative approach not only enhances functionality but also elevates the visual appeal of the interior, making Direction B a truly unique and captivating option in automotive design.

Direction C: Floating Instrument Panel

Direction C takes automotive design to new heights with its distinctive brand identity and innovative features. At the heart of this direction is the floating instrument panel, which not only serves as a functional element but also creates a stunning visual effect by detaching from the wall.

The surrounding display seamlessly integrates various infotainment features, marrying technology with aesthetics to provide drivers with a seamless and intuitive experience. A vertical partition and screen at the center ensure that the driver remains focused, while the fins on the door panels serve dual purposes as handles and design elements that align perfectly with the crisp edges of the instrument panel.

Furthermore, the asymmetric balance of the floating instrument panel, inspired by the Polestar logo, reinforces the brand’s dynamic stance and aerodynamic vibe, setting it apart from conventional designs. Rather than just a functional element, the floating instrument panel transcends its traditional role to become an artistic sculpture, reminiscent of those found in art museums.

The center console extends seamlessly to the trunk, creating a tunnel perfect for accommodating long items such as skis, adding to the car's versatility and practicality. The star seat bolsters provide stability and comfort across various driving conditions, ensuring a comfortable ride for passengers. The steering wheel, inspired by ergonomic video game controllers, is designed for agile control and enhances movement. Its embedded honeycomb structure not only enhances grip but also offers shock absorption for added safety in the event of a collision, prioritizing driver safety without compromising on style or performance.

Conclusion

Polestar 000 redefines automotive interiors, embodying the brand's essence with innovative design inspired by the Northern Star. Its three directions offer unique interpretations: Direction A prioritizes comfort with a vacuum-formed cabin, Direction B blends practicality and aesthetics with dual instrument panels, and Direction C introduces iconic floating aesthetics. These designs fuse practicality, aesthetics, and cultural significance, showcasing Polestar's commitment to innovation. This concept sets a new standard for automotive interiors, emphasising the journey with every moment behind the wheel reflecting the brand's dedication to excellence.
